Friends Group

The Friends of Alkrington Woods were originally formed in 1997 and have achieved many improvements by securing funding for items such as new pathways and the educational centre. We also arrange practical activities such as litter picking and invasive species control to get the local community involved in looking after the woods whilst getting some exercise and fresh air.

Some of the Friends help out the Ranger as Green Volunteers and organise guided walks around the reserve focusing on nature and heritage.

Middleton Way Grot Spot litterpick May 2019

The Friends work in conjunction with Middleton Township and Rochdale Borough Council and are fully insured to organise activities in the reserve. Our organisation is fully constituted and we meet each month at Thornberrys Bar. Ongoing projects include building a town centre gateway and planting a community orchard.
